Elder statesman and Afenifere chieftain, Chief Ayo Adebanjo has faulted
the incessant visits by former president Olusegun Obasanjo to President
Muhammadu Buhari in the presidential villa.
Speaking in a chat
with Daily Independent, Adebanjo urged Buhari to stop accommodating the
former president because he has nothing to offer in terms of advice and
leadership.
Adebanjo, who faulted Obasanjo’s desire to continue
to rule despite being out of office said the former president ruled
Nigeria for fifteen years out of the sixteen years the PDP was in power.
He added that Obasanjo lost out last year when former president Goodluck Jonathan refused to take orders from him.
“On
the frequent visits, I don’t blame Obasanjo. What about Buhari himself
who is accommodating him, sending him on emissary as if there are no
other capable hands in the country?”.
“The PDP ruled Nigeria for
sixteen years. Out of that sixteen years, this is a man who failed in
his eight years as president yet you are asking him to show you the
roadmap, that he is the navigator? What roadmap will he show you? The
roadmap that he couldn’t tour while he was in the office?”
“What
kind of man will leave the government and still wants to continue ruling
the government? He was there as president for eight years. He was there
during the time of late Umaru Yar’adua. He was there until former
president Goodluck Jonathan refused to take orders from him. Put
together, Obasanjo was in office for fifteen years out of the sixteen
years that PDP ruled”.
“This is a man whose party wanted to
impeach under Ghali Na’aba. They listed all his impeachable offences. He
has never refuted them but they only swept it under the carpet”.
“When
he was in office, he became so dictatorial that he changed the
constitution of the PDP to suit him that whoever wants to be the
Chairman of the Board of Trustees must be a former president”.
“If
Obasanjo says he is a leader, the media should ask him if he has the
quality of leadership. A man whose son told him that he is very immoral.
It is in the public eye and Obasanjo never denied it” he said.
